FOOD & CREATIVITY

Why food has always been my creative outlet

Some people express creativity through art, music, or photography. For me, it has always been through food. Cooking and baking have been something I naturally gravitated toward for as long as I can remember. Being in the kitchen never felt like a chore. It felt more like a space where I could experiment, try new things, and create something that people could actually enjoy.

Over the years, that interest turned into something more than just a hobby. One of the biggest experiences that strengthened my love for cooking was working at a cooking school for kids for three years. Teaching and helping kids learn how to cook was incredibly rewarding. Watching them try something new, gain confidence, and feel proud of what they created reminded me why food can be such a powerful way to connect with people.

Kids approach cooking in a very different way than adults do. They are curious, excited, and not afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes a recipe would not turn out exactly as planned, but that was part of the fun. The goal was not perfection. The goal was learning, experimenting, and enjoying the process. Being around that kind of energy made the experience even more meaningful and reminded me why I loved cooking in the first place.

Over time, spending so much time in the kitchen also made me start thinking about food in a different way. I began to notice how much creativity and thought goes into the food businesses people interact with every day. Whether it is a local coffee shop, a bakery, or a small food brand, the experience is never just about the product itself. It is about the atmosphere, the presentation, and the feeling people get when they walk in or try something new.

The more I paid attention to that, the more interested I became in the idea of building something of my own in the food space one day. Food businesses have the ability to create experiences that people remember. A simple pastry, a good cup of coffee, or even a well-designed food brand can become part of someone’s daily routine. That idea of creating something that people genuinely enjoy and return to is something I find really exciting.

One of the reasons I love to travel is because of the opportunity to experience different cultures through their food. Trying local dishes is always one of the most memorable parts of visiting a new place. Each region has its own ingredients, flavors, and cooking traditions and it is interesting to see how those elements shape everyday meals. Exploring local cafes, markets, and small restaurants often gives a deeper understanding of a place and its culture. Many of the dishes I try while traveling stay with me and sometimes inspire ideas I later experiment with in my own kitchen.

Social media has also been a big inspiration when it comes to the food I create. I often discover new recipes on TikTok or Instagram and I enjoy experimenting with them and putting my own twist on things. Sometimes it is as simple as changing an ingredient or trying a different way to present the final dish. It is interesting how one idea can turn into something completely different depending on how you approach it. Seeing how creative people can be with food online constantly gives me new ideas to try in the kitchen.

Food has always been where my creativity feels the most natural. It is the space where curiosity, culture, and new ideas all come together.
