ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Why I know I want to build something of my own
I have had a few jobs so far and there is something that happens to me in every single one. I will be doing what I am supposed to do, learning the system and following the process and at the same time I have this other thought running in the back of my head. What would I do differently if this were mine? What would I change? What feels off?
That way of thinking has always been there. I naturally question processes and look for ways things could run better. Instead of ignoring it I started paying attention to it. It made me realize that I am not just there to do the job but to understand it and think beyond it. I started noticing patterns, how small decisions impact the overall experience, how structure affects efficiency and how certain details can completely change the way a business feels to a customer.
I am studying entrepreneurship at the University of Miami and I think people sometimes assume that means I have always had some big idea or plan. That is not really the case for me. It has been more of a buildup of small moments, seeing things that could be improved, noticing gaps or watching businesses do something in a way that just does not feel right. Over time those moments started to stick with me. They made me more aware of how businesses operate and how much potential there is to improve even small parts of an experience.
What draws me to entrepreneurship is not just the idea of being my own boss. It is more about having a say in how things are done and being able to build something with intention. When you work for someone else you learn a lot. You see what works, what does not, how people are treated and how decisions get made. You also see where ideas stop, where changes do not happen and where opportunities are missed. Some of it is great and some of it makes you think this could be done better. That is valuable because it builds awareness and perspective in a way that classes really cannot.
I also think entrepreneurship fits how I naturally think and approach things. I pay attention to small details. I notice things other people might not. I like understanding how things work not just doing them. I have never been someone who is okay just completing a task without knowing the bigger picture. I want to understand the reason behind everything, how decisions are made and how each part connects to the whole. That curiosity is something I have always had and it continues to grow the more experience I gain.
I do not have everything figured out yet and I am okay with that. I am still early on and I think that is a good place to be. Every job, every project and every experience is teaching me something. I am learning what strong leadership looks like, what effective systems feel like and what kind of environment people actually enjoy being part of. At the same time I am learning what does not work which is just as important.
At some point I know I will build something of my own and when I do all of this will matter. Every observation, every question and every experience is shaping how I think about building something meaningful. For now I am focused on learning, staying aware and continuing to ask questions. That feels like the right place to start.
